Saturday August 28th the Hip Hop Dance Conservatory Presents. The Life and Death of Hip-Hop! Culminating a performance season that graced such prestigious venues of Lincoln Center, Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater, The Lovinger Theater, and Judson Memorial Church, The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory Repertory Company (HDCRC) will hold their 2nd annual Summer Repertory Exhibition, “The Life and Death of Hip-Hop” at Baryshnikov Arts Center Jerome Robbins Theater located on 450 West 37th Street NYC on Saturday, August 28, 2010.

There are 2 Performances:

Mantinee 1pm – 4pm

Evening 5pm – 10pm

(Evening Performance Includes a reception dinner to meet and greet the Artistic Director and cast, the Repertory Exhibition from 6:00pm-9:00pm, and the HDC Summer Intensive Class of 2010 Commencement from 9:00pm-10:00pm)

Tickets may be purchased in advance for the Matinee Performance and Evening Performance

Matinee show $20.00

Evening show $30.00

Admission at the door is pending.

I guess Wyclef For President was Not “Sweet” Enough!

This got my attention. Michel Martelly aka Sweet Micky is running for president of Haiti also.Right now the Haitian run for presidency looks like a sound clash from the mid 90’s. They should be having the presidential debate at Club Amazuras, The Red Forte, Or Malibu. As of this point I cannot say who is the least qualified of the two men to lead a “Ass Backwards Country” (I say this from experience and visits not from speculation), that has suffered a devastating earth quake.

There are many issues that need to be addressed in the country, considering that in many cases it is starting from scratch.

I hope that there is a educated politically savvy / seasoned person out there prepared to take the reins of the country. If not Haitian Carnival may be extended another month with the presidents best of concert!

I am going to stop saying we need to get back to real Hip Hop. Its time to leave the 90’s in the 90’s and realize that the struggle is over. Hip Hop will never change it will always embody the life style of the current generation. Back then we wanted fly cars like Maxima’s, Acura’s, The Lex with the Bubble Lights. Fresh Ewings, Jordans, Pippin’s, and even Larry Johnson Kicks. You were on the come up if you had a matching starter Jacket and Hat. Now its what ever it is that the current youth want. I have no idea.

In this instance I wonder what came first. The Song or the Video? This Video is tough and sets a tone, I love it. It has all the classic video elements, wealth, women, and over the top “Ballin”. At the same time it has nothing. Shouts to the brother Kanye West for giving us something to think about.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Singer Wyclef Jean is considering a run for president of Haiti but has not decided whether to seek a five-year term as leader of the quake-ravaged nation, the musician’s family said Monday.

There have been rumors for some time the Haitian-born entertainer might enter the 2010 presidential contest, ever since his 2007 appointment as ambassador-at-large for the Caribbean nation by President Rene Preval, who cannot seek re-election.

In a statement e-mailed to reporters, the family said, “Wyclef’s commitment to his homeland and its youth is boundless, and he will remain its greatest supporter regardless of whether he is part of the government moving forward … If and when a decision is made, media will be alerted immediately.”

The letter was signed “The Jean Family.” A spokeswoman for the musician confirmed the message’s authenticity.

Jean, 37, was born on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince but left the hemisphere’s poorest country as a child and grew up in New York City’s borough of Brooklyn.

He told The Associated Press in a recent interview he intended to be involved in the Nov. 28 election, but not necessarily as a candidate.

“Do I have political intentions? At this time no. But what I do have is a movement – it’s called Face a Face, ‘Face to Face’,” Jean said. “The youth population … we are going to encourage them to vote.”

The singer has been active in recent years in raising money through his Yele Haiti Foundation. The organization was widely criticized for alleged financial irregularities after the Jan. 12 quake, when scrutiny revealed it had paid Jean to perform at fundraising events and bought advertising air time from a television station he co-owns.

The organization hired a new accounting firm after the allegations surfaced.

Jean, who said he voted for Preval in 2006, would not have an easy road as a candidate. Haitian elections are contentious and often violent.

Dozens of candidates are expected to declare themselves by the Aug. 7 deadline. Preval’s opponents have threatened to block the Nov. 28 vote if he does not replace the presidentially approved electoral council, which he has refused to do.

To enter the race, Jean would have to prove he has resided in Haiti for five consecutive years, own property in the country and have never been a citizen of any country other than Haiti.

Whoever wins will face the gargantuan task of rebuilding a country devastated by the Jan. 12 earthquake. Haiti has not had a functioning economy in decades and its presidents have only rarely completed a constitutional five-year term – more typically being overthrown, getting assassinated, declaring themselves “president-for-life” or some combination of the three.

Wednesday night is the only night I took the Camera out this weekend. But trust me the party at Bliss was rocking something serious! Dj Cre-8 and the Triple-R put it down at Bliss. Then the ladies hit the stage and really got crazy. So crazy I had to leave out most of the images. It looks like free concert tickets and the Goose is all you need for a great time. Last week was rocking 3 parties in 2 night’s who else is coming out this much. And this week we don’t even pump the break. First stop was Nuves in Queens, then we hit up Levels in Queens, and finished off the weekend at the Ultra Sexy Soiree (BLVD) in the village. Look close at the Soiree pics and you might be able to catch the Conga line. Shout outs to the Transporter there was no sleeping in the van last week. This week we are partying at Bliss on Wednesday, Sequoia – LQ – and Tribecca on Friday, I will be in the Hampton’s on Saturday, And Sunday Soel is gonna be one of the Stops! Fire works wont’ be the only thing poppin on the fourth.
